International Insights report launch

On 29 November 2023, A Model For Scotland launched its report, 'International Insights: How Scotland can learn from international efforts to combat commercial sexual exploitation'. The report launch took place during this year’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence to highlight the fact that perpetrating this form of violence against women is still legal in Scotland.

As Scotland develops its own model to challenge men’s demand for prostitution and support women to exit, it is important to learn from other countries that have embarked on a similar quest to combat sexual exploitation. The report presents the findings from a series of dialogues with international partners on what works to reduce sex trafficking and sexual exploitation - and how any challenges can be overcome.

The report was launched at an online launch event chaired by Ruth Maguire MSP, Co-convener of the Cross-Party Group on Commercial Sexual Exploitation. The panel of international speakers included:

  • Mia de Faoite, Survivor-activist and Training Coordinator at Ruhama – Ireland

  • Claire Quidet, President of Mouvement du Nid - France

  • Taina Bien-Aimé, Executive Director at Coalition Against Trafficking in Women - US

  • Drífa Snædal, Spokeswoman for Stígamót - Iceland

  • Nina Humphries, Deputy Director at UK Feminista
